Lafayette, Indiana

Located sixty miles northwest of Indianapolis, Lafayette Indiana is the county seat of Tippecanoe County. It is the regional center in north central Indiana for education, culture, religion, recreation and healthcare. The largest employers in Lafayette and the surrounding area are Purdue University, Eli Lilly -- Tippecanoe Laboratories, Alcoa, Caterpillar, Clarian Arnett, St. Elizabeth Regional Health, State Farm Insurance and TRW, Fairfield Manufacturing, AE Staley and Subaru Automotive of Indiana.

Lafayette is the home of a variety of housing neighborhoods, including some of the oldest and most stately homes in the area. In the post WWII era, Lafayette was the home to National Homes, the country’s largest manufacturer of prefabricated homes. Some of the National Homes neighborhoods, developed in the 1950’s, are still in prime condition.

The downtown area in Lafayette is alive and well. It is the location of many of the cultural venues in town, including the Long Center for the Performing Arts (home of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and the Bach Choral Singers), the Lafayette Theatre, the Lafayette Museum of Art and the Tippecanoe County Historic Association. Downtown Lafayette also boasts a wide variety of fine and distinctive locally owned restaurants.

Education is a priority for citizens in Lafayette. Not only is Purdue University located across the Wabash River in West Lafayette, the second largest campus of Ivy Tech Community College is on the south side of Lafayette.
